Bio:
Maryam Roberts is Co-founder, Facilitator and Organizer with Art in Action. Utilizing her passion for photography and writing, she produced the Art in Action Digital Storytelling program in 2006, as an accessible way for our participants to share their stories through writing & photography. In May 2006 she began as the Peace & Solidarity Program Director at the Women of Color Resource Center in Oakland, CA.
Maryam comes from years of experience with the Global Exchange Speakers Bureau, where she organized speaking tours of military family members like Fernando Suarez del Solar, who lost his son Jesus in March 2003 and Iraq war veterans like Sean O'Neill, and resisters Camilo Mejia and Pablo Paredes. She is passionate about engaging with young communities of color on issues of militarism and peace, and helping them to find alternatives to the military. She was also National Coordinator with YES! for a few years back at the turn of the century.
"We came together to talk about our identities, play together, laugh together and feel safe together in our common goal to bring light, celebration and healing to our movements for justice. YES! has enabled me to feel capable at whole new levels. YES! has helped me learn how great we are together."
