Bio:

Kate Barron works as a community development field representative the Gulf Coast recovery program of the international, rights-based development organization, Oxfam America. With deep family roots in Louisiana, Kate’s first role following hurricanes Katrina and Rita was as a local recovery coordinator for Louisiana's rural southeastern parishes with a small local community development organization. Prior to her work on the Gulf Coast, Kate worked at Columbia Law School coordinating social justice and public interest initiatives as well as doing community-based research in Argentina and in the private sector in London. Kate holds a masters degree in Development Studies from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies and graduated magna cum laude with a BA in International Relations from Boston University. Fluent in Spanish, Kate is also a certified holistic health counselor, an amateur genealogist focusing on South Louisiana, an enthusiast of vintage clothing, reading and live music, particularly in the small town pubs of Ireland. Kate was recently selected to be a member of the inaugural class of Effective Fellows with Duke University’s Center for Leadership and Public Values and Southern University School of Business.
