Bio:

Heather is an environmental educator and trip leader for the Traveling School. She leads high school girls from the United States throughout South America, facilitating their learning through experience and through connection to local people. She works to help girls to advocate for themselves as young women and young leaders. She works also as a camp counselor and outdoor trip leader in her home state of Maine and is working to develop a program that will help young Maine leaders find a sense of place and responsibility to the local environmental and political issues in their state.

She has worked as a leader, interpreter, and cultural liaison for groups of adults traveling in Honduras, as facilitating religious dialogue. She worked to design a fair trade program with a vocational school in Honduras that works in partnership with the United Church of Christ in Maine. As a religious studies major and neuroscience minor in college, she is deeply interested in holistic healing and shamanism, which complements her EMT certification. She worked as the coordinator of a rape and sexual assault hotline, and has worked extensively to empower young people to train and teach each other. She loves just about any activity that is outdoors and active - but especially ultimate Frisbee!
