When FUNAI (The Brazilian Governments Indigenous Program), imposed a European style school in Caime’s traditional lands, he was taken to the city to learn how to “teach” there. Before long, he transformed all the curriculum and structures so that they were relevant to his people- The books are all in Xavante, and the school is non-obligitory. Students go if they want to learn how to be bridges to the Western culture. Caime is also a video film-maker and has written a number of books to educate his community. He recently finished a successful campaign to teach dental hygene.
