YES! is currently seeking a full time Development Coordinator to join its 6-person staff in Santa Cruz, CA. Founded in 1990, YES! connects, inspires and collaborates with young changemakers in building thriving, just and sustainable ways of life for all. YES! has held 90 week-long camps and Jams for diverse young leaders from 60+ nations. YES! Jams unite groups of 30 young leaders for week-long transformative, community-building events that help to deepen the root system that underlies movements for progressive social transformation.

Development Coordinator
Areas of Responsibility
The Development Coordinator is responsible for the following areas of work within YES!, delegating specific projects and tasks to contractors, office staff and interns as needed. It is important to note that major ask events happen every three years, and actual work in certain areas will shift accordingly on an “off” year.
- Major Ask Events (25% of position, much less time during “off” years)
- Major Donor Cultivation (25% of position, increased time during “off” years)
- Collaboration with staff on YES!’s organizational development (15% of position)
- Fundraising House Parties (15% of position, 25% during “off” years)
- Produce a 12-minute Video (10% of position, less time during “off” years)
- Foundation Fundraising (9% of position)
- In-Kind Donations (1% of position)
Qualifications, skills and experience
The ideal candidate is:
- Experienced in nonprofit fundraising (minimum 2 years prior experience)
- Skilled in organizing and coordinating successful fundraising events
- Skilled in building relationships with and inviting support from major donors
- Knowledgeable about foundation research, grant writing and reporting
- Excellent at both verbal and written communications
- Savvy, quick learning, resourceful, and good at thinking outside the box
- Highly organized, passionate, self-motivated, and energetic
- Interested in a long term position

Compensation
Salary will be $35,000-$45,000+, depending on experience, plus benefits.

Detailed Job Description: Development Coordinator
Major Ask Events (25% of position, much less time during “off” years)
Work with Director and Development Manager and Events Coordinator to produce large-scale Ask Events every three years, with the first of these to be held in 2009. Specifically:
For the 2009 Event – In tandem with Events Coordinator:
- Research site options, negotiate pricing, and confirm caterer/menu for pre-show reception.
- Contract with a competent tech company to handle the A/V setup and delivery on the day of event(s).
- Research and book entertainment and speakers, and coordinate all elements of stage program such as script, Powerpoint, etc.
- Develop a plan for Donor/Supporters and Alumni Reception and other Donor/Supporters participation with tickets and promotion.
- Create fundraiser task list and check-in with all responsible parties monthly or weekly.
- Track “RSVPs” and help Donors/Supporters “registration” for ticket and seat count.
- Be responsible for all collateral and printing related to event marketing and donations.
- Recruit volunteers and assign staff for post-event calls to everyone who makes a donation at one of the fundraising events.
- Enroll YES! donors, alumni and partners to participate in the outreach for the event through extensive phone and email contact.
Major Donor Cultivation (25% of position, increased time during “off” years)
- Follow up from fundraising events and check-in ongoingly with relationship-building phone calls to new and and established donors ($100-$1,999 per year level) in tandem with Development Manager and Director.
- Invite donors to participate in relevant YES! events.
- Generate and attend in-person meetings with potential supporters in the Bay Area and target cities, engaging YES!’s existing donor network, YES! alumni and related networks and communities when necessary.
- Support Director and Development Manager to nurture fundraising opportunities, researching and following up on relevant leads from initial inquiry through to proposals and follow-up.
- Work closely with YES!’s Director and Development Manager in all fundraising activities, such as Spring and Fall Mailings and Donor “adoption” efforts.
- Follow-up with phone calls and communication to complete an invitation to contribute.
- Coordinate follow-up with donors who have not yet sent their pledge
Ongoing Contact With Co-workers (15% of position)
Foster and maintain clear, consistent, effective, and mutually supportive ongoing communication with co-workers. Don’t let issues, concerns, etc. build up that might affect your level of productivity or the fulfillment you derive from your work
- Share appreciation as well as concerns.
- Ask questions freely and frequently.
- Participate in staff meetings.
- Participate scheduled retreats and meetings.
Fundraising House Parties (15% of position, 25% during “off” years)
Organize several fundraising house parties annually in regions with a perceived critical mass of donors, alumni, and potential supporters, with support of Development Manager. Specifically:
- Dialogue with and enroll organizers and host committee members, thereafter creating and distributing Host Information Packets.
- Coach host committee members through the process in a systematic way, providing written material templates as well as suggested scripts, start and completion dates for various tasks, and advise along the way, helping them to succeed and to implement tried and tested formulas for success.
- Coordinate with host committee members on food, cleanup, space setup, parking, A/V needs, and other logistics related to putting on a successful event.
- Help design and oversee systems that enable host committee members to register their guests, track attendance, and monitor the success of the organizing effort.
- Attend and help with logistics of house parties when possible.
- Be responsible for all collateral and printing related to event marketing and donations.
- Follow up with evaluation and debriefing with the host committee, and thank you/relationship-building calls to new donors.
Video (10% of position, less time during “off” years)
- Work with videographer and other technical crew and vendors, with support of Director and Development Manager, to produce a 12-minute film about the work of YES! and our community for use at the 2009 Celebration and future events, and reproduction of 3,000 copies for general outreach.
Foundation Fundraising (9% of position)
- Help Development Manager to research specific lists of foundations that support organizations doing similar work to YES! (particularly in the fields of leadership development, spiritual/activist bridging, global peace-making and bridgebuilding with young people, and youth/philanthropy), using directories and websites to prepare reports on funders’ location, mission, deadline, budget, grant scale, potential areas of overlap with YES!, etc.
- Assist Development Manager to produce customized letters of inquiry and proposals for those foundations that seem most appropriate (submitting about 10-15 proposals annually).
In-Kind Donations (1% of position)
- Support Program Staff in securing food and other in-kind donations and sending out thank you letters as needed.
