Tipping Point Network Mini-Jam

by julie

by Ocean Robbins, Founder / Co-Director

From March 20-24, twenty-one diverse social leaders converged for the second annual Tipping Point Network Intergenerational Mini-Jam in Nevada City, CA.  Participants ranged from ages 21-72, and were inter-faith, cross-class, inter-partisan, multi-ethnic, and of varied gender expressions.  Born out of the Tipping Point Network (TPN), which was founded in 2006 and is now a community of 60+ servant-leaders working in diverse sectors to help “tip” the balance towards a sustainable future, this mini-Jam combined the insights and distinctions that have emerged from our years of TPN gatherings and conversations, with the YES! Jam methodology and skill set.  The response was fantastic.

Global Youth Leadership Collaborative Report

by julie

by Shilpa Jain, GYLC Coordinator

The Global Youth Leadership Collaborative is hard at work finishing two publications. "No Way Out, Many Ways Forward" is a collection of 20 World Jam alumni stories; it is currently being printed. We hope to have copies for our wider community soon!  Our second publication, "Connect. Inspire. Collaborate" contains 130 activities for facilitating conversation and connection among young change-makers. It is in the final stages of design and editing; we hope to print it later this month.   We are also excited about upcoming projects: a series of children's books from Bolivia, Mali and Egypt; a publication about African diasporic collaborations; several short videos of a diverse array of youth activists; and a series of interviews/graphic recordings of youth-led alternatives from around the world.  We are looking forward to reconnecting in our annual meeting in November 2010, in Cairo, Egypt (hosted by GYLC member Motaz Atalla).

Second Annual Middle East Jam, October 19-26, 2009

by julie

Twenty-seven young leaders gathered from Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Palestine, Tunisia, and the USA for a transformational week in Jordan's exquisitely beautiful southern desert. Jam participants built friendships and laid groundwork for vibrant partnerships, and gained support to empower their work for sustainability, peace, localization, community resilience, justice, human rights, interfaith dialogue, social entrepreneurship, youth development and conflict transformation. The Jam was held outdoors in the Wadi Rum desert -- a place of deep peace and deafening silence. Sessions were held under Bedoin tents, sitting on luscious soft flat, right up against towering pink cliffs that provided shade from the intense sun.

Global Youth Leadership Collaborative Updates

by julie

The Global Youth Leadership Collaborative just completed its third year of work. We are in the final stages of printing two publications, “No Way Out – Many Ways Forward” (a collection of 20 World Jammer personal stories and provocative reflections) and “Connect, Inspire, Collaborate – A YES! Activities Facilitation Manual” (featuring over 130 activities/exercises to be used in Jam-like gatherings).

The Global Collaborative had a wonderful meeting in Santa Cruz in July 2009 and are currently planning our next meeting (likely, Cairo in November).  We also just finished documenting how our flow funds of 2009 were spent and are ready to start fundraising for our flow fund this year.  If you or someone you know would like to help support the Global Collaborative distribute money to programs, activists, organizations, and movements, all around the world, please contact us.
