Leveraging Privilege for Social Change Workshop
April 6th, 2008 10:30am-6:00pm
What does privilege mean to each of us? How can we use our lives, relationships, connections, opportunities and resources to live healthy lives and work collaboratively for social change? How do we build healthy, authentic and mutually respectful intergenerational partnerships? What would life be like if we could unleash all that we have and all that we are on behalf of all that we love?
If these questions (and more) intrigue you, then please join us!

What We Will Do
In this workshop we will explore the diverse kinds and experiences of privilege that exist in our lives and how we can use them as leverage to have a bigger impact in bringing about a healthy, just and sustainable world.
This is a unique opportunity to hear and engage with a diverse group of privileged and committed leaders on a level of uncommon depth, and to participate in an honest, galvanizing and inspiring conversation. We come together to build bonds of community, understanding and trust between people, generations and movements, to see the powerful connections between the diverse issues in our world, and to gain support and skills for the work to which our lives are committed.
"I was touched on many levels and learned some important lessons that are still working their way through me. The skill and presence of the facilitating team was incredible to behold. I think it was an inspired experiment to bring together the intergenerational group with the younger journeyers. We have so much to learn from each other, to touch the ageless place within each of us where wisdom and spirit reside, from which the elders can offer lessons learned and the youngers remind us of the courage to leap beyond our ideas and limits with the absolute knowledge that the hand of spirit will be there to catch us unerringly. What a cauldron of unimaginable power. You are blessed in being able to reach across the chasms that can at times separate the generations, with your specialness that touches so many of us."
- Jeff Grossberg, 59, Founder, Bridge Philanthropic Advisors, Boulder, CO
Who Is This Event For?
We're looking for diverse participants who desire to make a difference with their lives, who feel that they have some significant privilege (whether through earning, luck, inheritance, education, skills to share, public attention, or professional position), and who are willing to share honestly about some of the crucial issues in their lives and our world. We set no specific monetary or social impact yardstick for what privileged means. This workshop is a place for learning, growing, and deepening in our capacity to use the resources in our lives to make a difference in the world.
We intend for workshop participants to come from a range of backgrounds, including inheritors, musical artists, athletes, philanthropy professionals, donor organizers, non-profit leaders, actors and entrepreneurs. Participants should hold an intention to explore vital issues and to grow and learn together. We will come together to build bonds of community, understanding and trust between people and movements, to see the connections between the diverse issues in the world today, and to gain support and skills for the work to which we are committed. If this message speaks to you, and you feel that you are a "fit" with this programs intentions, then please join us.
Price
The workshop fee is on a sliding scale from $10-250. We appreciate all contributions, and intend to enable a diversity of perspectives and voices to be present, which will help create a richer learning experience for all who attend. We hope to create a truly accessible and open space for all to participate.
